The following is a speach I gave at my parents twentyfifth anniversary party to honor them.

As unto the bow the cord is, so unto man is woman, though she bends him, she obeys him. Though she draws him yet she follows, each useless without the other.
This poem by Longfellow is in my opinion, some of the most beautiful words ever spoken about the marriage relationship; the lord puts another way in scripture. It is not good that man should be himself alone. I will make a helpmeet for him. This verse in Genesis and the poem by Longfellow describe the beauty of marriage when it follows Gods design. God created marriage. It is the first relationship he instituted among men. Marriage is not mans idea or invention. Also God does not create anything without a purpose and vision. What then the purpose of marriage? Why should a man and woman leave their father and mother? It is not simply because they love each other. The Lord does give them a specific purpose. The mission he gives man at the beginning is to take dominion over the earth, to subdue it and be fruitful and multiply. The tool if you will that the Lord gives man to fulfil this mission is the family. The second relationship the Lord institutes after marriage is the family. The large the family, the more the children the greater ones influence on the world can be.

Family is the incubator of culture. It is not enough that a family as many children, their children and together as a family they must serve the Lord in righteousness. Without a family one can argue that we as Christians cannot fulfil the dominion mandate.
As arrows in the hands of a mighty warrior so are children of one youth. My father is a mighty and blessed warrior for his quiver is full. His children are fighting alongside him, serving the Lord. Children are a blessing from the Lord and I want to rise up today and publicly call them Blessed. A blessing they have chosen.
Daddy may you posses your enemies in the gates. May God give you the blessing of Abraham. May he make a great and mighty nation from you and may your decedents be as numerous as the sand.
Mother may the Lord bless you with the blessing of Rebekah. Grow into thousands of thousand, may you posses his enemies in the gates.
My greatest and dearest prayer and desire for you is the greatest familial blessing given in scripture. The blessing of Jonadab the Rechabite. Therefore thus saith the Lord the God if Israel, Jondab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me forever.
