To the world I would be considered a loser, I have graduated high school. I didn't go to college and have no intention of going to college. I am working at job that is considered a losers job. I holds no respect. However on the complete opposite side of the spectrum is the ultra conservative family, that believes a girl should not ever be working outside the home and that I am not in step with God's design for young ladies, instead I am trying to inch as close to the line as I possibly can without fully committing myself to the other side.
However I am neither, I am not a loser, and I am not trying to cross into unBiblical lines. Not that I should care what others think of me, and I will start here.
As a daughter of the King of Kings, my first duty is to please my Heavenly Father, my second duty is to please my earthly Father. I hope I can explain I am doing both. In my Bible study this week for girls I am going to be teaching on careers, and what the word of God has to say about young woman and careers.
I believe the ultimate career a young lady should be preparing for is to someday be helpmeet to her husband and a mother.
Titus 2:4,5...That they may instruct young woman to be sober minded, that they love their husbands, that they love their children. That they be temperate, chaste, keepers at home, good and subject unto their husbands that the word of God be not evil spoken.
The job to keep the home is given to the woman, however the job to provide is given to the man, and never to the woman in scripture.
2 Timothy 5:8...If their be any that provideth not for his own, and namely for them of his own household, he denieth the faith and is worse than an infidel.
So as I teach this I am sure the question or comment will come up of my own working outside the home. I will try to answer that here.
Yes I do work outside the home, it is not a career however it is a job. Not a whole lot of difference, in the fact that it takes me away from my home, and puts me into a ungodly unprotected environment. My life however, and all my time and devotion is not poured into this job to advance myself and spend all my energy and passion into pursuing this forever.
Why do I have a job. It is not my great need for physical things, a new outfit every week, or even every month, lots of makeup, hobbies, money to blow ect...
The truth is I have little choice in the matter. The focus of my Bible study is to honor our fathers, and turn our hearts toward our fathers. And for now my dad wants and needs me to work. I don't condemn my father over this. I do not love my job, but I love to help my dad. While the lines as to whether a woman should work outside the home may be unclear to some. It is absolutely clear that not honoring out fathers is a sin. We live in a fallen world, that has fallen away from a once Biblical society. We are in a period of transition, for an unBiblical society to a more Biblical society. Each new generation as we move closer and pursue Godly precepts will in turn become more Biblical, and I pray my daughters will never have "hold a job," outside the sphere of the home, and their fathers and husbands protection.
I will not marry a man that expects me to have a job career, and job outside our home. Gladly I will serve along side him. Gladly I will work in my home. Certainly this does not mean I am sit around the house and do nothing. No woman we are to work. However we will always be serving a man, we cannot escape that, why would I want to serve another man, when I could serve my father, or someday my husband and make him successful.
So young ladies don't look on it as am excuse to get out into to the world and hold a job, saying that your father expects it. Sit down and have a long conversation with your dad about these things. If you dad owns his own business perhaps you could help him. Perhaps you could sit and talk about starting your own sort of business at home. Just be certain to have your father's blessing. I tried to do this without sitting down and talking it over with my father and receiving his blessing and it did not work.
Perhaps even still you will have to end up being in the work force. But hope and pray for someday, when you get married that you will be able to follow God's design for the family and be a chaste keeper of the home.
Some things that working outside the home has taught me.
To love being at home. My time at home is limited. I look forward to leaving work, to coming home. That time is precious.
Not to waste time. Because my time at home is limited a need to spend it wisely, something the Lord is dealing with my heart in. Teach us Lord to number our days that we may apply ourselves to wisdom. Psalms 90:12
