The String Thing, (and other great traditions)

It is my opinion that my family has the best Christmas celebrations and traditions. One of those traditions, is the String Thing, as we all call it. My parents give us each our own skain of yarn which they tie a present to one end, and unwind the yarn throughout the entire house, wrapping it around everything. When there are six kids, yeah it looks like a giant colorful spider web. We each have to wind up our yarn to find the present. I have now graduated to helping my parents unwind the yarn as well as winding it back up.

And we have only just begun!

Mom's exhausted, and taking a break.

Dad's concentrating look

Strategiclly placed objects, such as this drying wrack, for wrapping yarn around

Sometimes you have to crawl under the yarn.
Poor Twika got herself tangled in the yarn.
Other great family traditions for Christmas include the box maze (which I've already mentioned) a treasure hunt, the turkey dinner of course. But no presents under the tree? Imagine! We open those on January 6th. As my brothers like to say, "we get to celebrate Christmas longer than anybody else!"

You'll shoot your eye out

In my case it's you''ll poke your eye out.

One of our great family traditions at Christmas is that my dad makes us a maze out of boxes, that we crawl in through in the dark. Well this year he used some plywood as well. Well I ran into a piece of wood, bare eyeball first. So I spent a few hours Christmas night at the hospital, and now all day today with my eyes shut lying on the couch.

Definitely a Christmas memory to remember.
